The Treatment Journey

At your initial consultation with Dr Neha Gokani, we’ll make sure you’re a suitable candidate for Invisalign®.
Using our digital scanner, we’ll be able to build a unique treatment plan, showing every stage of your Invisalign® journey and creating a mock-up of what your future smile will look like via Invisalign®’s ClinCheck technology.
Your aligners will be bespoke made for you by the experts at Invisalign®. When they’re ready, you’ll pick them up and start wearing them for 22 hours a day.
You’ll move on to your new aligners every 1-2 weeks.
We’ll check up on your progress every 4-6 weeks in practice to make sure everything is moving along as it should be.
After 6-18 months, you’ll be able to show off your new smile.
We’ll provide you with removable retainers, which you’ll wear every night to ensure your teeth don’t relapse into their original position.

What can Invisalign® fix?

Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth are a condition where you do not have enough room for your teeth to fit normally. This can cause plaque or tartar and other harmful bacteria to build up as it is harder for you to brush and floss well.

Gaps between teeth

Gaps between teeth are when there is extra space between two or more of your teeth. This can cause pockets between your teeth and gums and food to get stuck, making them tender and sore. This might also lead to gum disease.

Open bite

An open bite is when your upper and lower teeth don't touch when you close your mouth. An open bite can make it hard for you to chew or difficult to bite even the most common of foods like apples.

Underbite

An underbite is when you close your mouth, and your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth. In many cases, this is actually a problem with your lower jaw being too far forward. An underbite can make it hard to chew properly and speak clearly, and it might cause your teeth to wear down more quickly.

Overbite

An overbite is when your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth. Most people have at least a little overbite. When your overbite is too large, your doctor might tell you you have a deep bite. This can cause problems, from your teeth wearing down to pain in your jaw.

Crossbite

A crossbite is when you close your mouth, and yet some of your upper teeth sit inside your lower teeth rather than on the outside. A crossbite can make your teeth wear down or chip. It can also make your gums start to recede or make little notches above your gum line. This kind of damage can lead to painful gum problems or even bone loss.

FAQs

1. How does Invisalign® work?

Invisalign® moves the teeth into the desired position through the gentle application of pressure from each new aligner set. Custom-made for each patient, the aligner trays are replaced every 1-2 weeks to apply the necessary pressure and must be worn for at least 22 hours a day to ensure the desired results.

2. Is Invisalign® invisible?

Thanks to the use of their patented SmartTrack material, Invisalign® is as close to invisible as it is possible to get from any orthodontic treatment. Most patients find that family and friends don’t notice when they’re wearing their Invisalign® and are even comfortable having their photo taken.

3. Is Invisalign® removable?

Yes, one of the key aspects of Invisalign® is that the aligners are removable. This allows for easy swapping out of aligner trays and easy teeth cleaning. It also means the patient can eat and drink with the aligners removed.

4. How often should I wear my aligners?

Your aligners need to be worn daily for a minimum of 22 hours.

5. How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment journey is completely unique, and the exact length is dependent on the position of the teeth at the start of treatment. In most cases, Invisalign® achieves the patient’s straighter smile in 6-18 months.

6. Is Invisalign® painful?

Wearing your Invisalign® shouldn’t be painful, and thanks to their SmartTrack material, it is the most comfortable aligner option. Some patients do find some discomfort when first wearing them, however, and this can reoccur as the aligners are changed to a new set.

7. Do I need to wear a retainer?

Once your treatment is completed, we will provide you with removable Vivera retainers so that your new smile can be maintained and your teeth don’t revert to their original positions. Alternatively, patients can opt for a fixed retainer.

8. Can I eat normally when using Invisalign®?

Because the aligners are removable, you can continue to eat and drink as normal during your treatment. We recommend brushing your teeth after every meal before putting the aligner trays back in.
